Boucle de contre-réaction
Qu'est-ce que cette boucle ? La contre-réaction, à ce niveau, consiste à prélever une petite partie du signal au niveau de la sortie haut-parleur et la réinsérer au niveau de l'inverseur de phase.
Pourquoi l'utilise-t-on ? En gros, la contre-réaction linéarise la réponse en fréquence de l'ampli. Il réduit aussi sa dynamique, par exemple il n'y a que peu de différence en terme de gain entre les positions ultra-linéaire et 1/2 puissance du dirty switch. L'ampli sonne plus "propre". Cependant, la position 1/2 puissance est toujours la plus "sale".
Comment a-t-on fait ? On a créé une contre-réaction switchable via un sélecteur 3 positions. D'un côté, on a la sortie HP 16 Ohms, de l'autre, la 8 Ohms et au centre, pas de contre-réaction. On a pu remarquer que plus l'impédance de la sortie est haute, plus on obtient de contre'réaction. On perd du gain à travers cette boucle, et le son global est plus brillant et tranchant, plus ramassé. Ce qui est un bon moyen de faire sortir une guitare du mix.
Negative feedback loop
What is negative feedback? At this stage, it is a small amount of voltage taken from the speaker output and injected into the circuit, on the input of the phase inverter.
Why do we use negative feedback? Basically, negative feedback flattens the frequency response of the amp. It also tightens its dynamics, as in when we use the dirty switch there is not much difference in terms of gain between the ultra linear and the half power positions. It makes the amp sound cleaner. However the half power is still muddier.
What did we do? We made a switchable negative feedback with a 3 way switch. On one side, we put the 16 ohms output, on the other side the 8 ohms output and in the middle, no negative feedback.
We noticed that the higher the output impedance, the more negative feedback you get. There is a gain loss through the loop, and the overall sound is brighter and sharper, tighter. It sure would help a guitar to cut through the mix though.
Contrôle de "présence" ou d'attitude
Cette modification consiste à remplacer la résistance de 5K de l'inverseur de phase par un potentiomètre de même valeur. Il agit comme un réglage de tonalité générale, qui donne beaucoup d'aigus à l'ampli. C'est un réglage qui rend le rend assez agressif, ce qui peut aider une guitare à se détacher davantage du reste du mix.
Presence or Attitude control
This mod consists in replacing the 5K resistor on the PI with a potentiometer of the same value. It acts as a "master tone", as it gives a whole lot of high end to the amp. It is another feature that makes the amp more aggressive to boost the guitar and help it cut through the mix.
